It
is recommended that this material be installed
on a sloped roof of no less than 22.5 degree
pitch. On a 45 degree pitch or less sarking
should be used. Authentic Roof can be installed
on plywood or battens. When using battens they
should not be fixed more than 100mm apart (There
must be support for each slate at the top, middle,
and bottom). Important: Cut the top 150mm off
the starter row of slates.
Exposures are 152mm, 165mm and 178mm (6”,
6.5”, 7”) measured from the bottom
of the slate. In high wind areas use only
152mm exposure. It is required that a 5mm
gap be maintained between the slates (side
by side), this gap is achieved automatically
during installation. Authentic Roof is totally
impervious to moisture penetration however
it is not advisable to carry out installation
in temperatures below 0C degrees. If installation
is required in low temperatures, then store
the material in a warm place before use. Nails
should be placed in the divots provided and
should not be driven in extremely tight.
Important: Do not use a nail gun
to install these slates.
The line-up scales on the side of the slates
are intended as an approximate guide. To ensure
straight lines and to maintain exact exposure
in the rows, a chalk line or straight edge
should be used. To cut to size or shape, score
well on the front with a sharp utility knife
and fold back, then trim. Slates can also
be cut with a circular saw or jigsaw.
Hip & Ridge slates are slightly different
to the regular roof slates as they have a
narrow channel on the back, running down the
centre. A heat gun should be used to gently
heat this channel allowing the slate to be
bent easily and then the desired angle can
easily be achieved. They should be trimmed
along the top side edges so as to not protrude
out from under the next cap on top of it -
this is for aesthetics only.
This product can be installed by anyone with
a good knowledge of proper roofing procedure
and does not require any specialised equipment
or training. Installation should be in accordance
with these recommendations and local council
or state building codes, as failure to comply
may void warranty.
Note: Authentic Roof is
made from Recycled TPO that may have different
amounts of carbon black in the material. Shades
may be lighter or darker because of this so
blending of the material is important. Bundles
should be distributed evenly from each pallet
and slates from each bundle the same thus
evenly spreading any possible variation throughout
the roof. This will improve the “natural”
look of the roof.
